International life insurance company’s grand opening event in Yangon creatively blends art and culture, in celebration of its journey and milestones in Myanmar
[Yangon, Myanmar, 18 January 2020] – AIA, one of the world’s largest insurance companies in the world, organized the ‘UN’ Grand Opening event - an immersive experience creatively blending art and culture, at Junction City on 18 January 2020. The multi-gallery venue celebrates the company’s many milestones in Myanmar, the 18th and latest of its life insurance markets across the Asia Pacific region, and its commitment to promoting Healthier, Longer, Better Lives here.
The grand opening event comes just months after it commenced offering its first life policies in November 2019, soon after receiving its life insurance license from the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Ministry of Planning, Finance and Industry to operate in Myanmar through a 100% wholly-owned subsidiary. In attendance were Mr. Ng Keng Hooi, AIA Group Chief Executive and President, Mr. Tan Hak Leh, AIA’s Asia-Pacific Regional CEO, Mr. Nhon Ly (Luc), CEO of AIA Myanmar, AIA’s partners, media and AIA Myanmar employees.
The concept ‘UN’ – which means ‘One’ in French – carries a deep significance for AIA. It refers to the company’s many “firsts” but was also inspired by its aim to creatively express its innovative brand through a digital medium. ‘UN’ is also a transformative prefix and when placed in front of words, it changes the ultimate direction and energy such as ‘Uncovered’, ‘Unleashed’ and ‘Undivided’. This is the energy that AIA aims to generate in Myanmar by going in uncharted directions not seen before.
Bringing this concept to life were striking visual demonstrations within 5 artfully designed thematic rooms, each corresponding to distinct elemental representations of its journey to-date and ambitious aspirations for the future.
“All of us at AIA are delighted to be celebrating our successes with Myanmar through ‘UN’, a visually immersive experience, that also pays homage to the rich and vibrant culture of the country. It embodies our innovative approach as we aim to build excitement around the life insurance industry and convey our promise of Healthier, Longer, Better, Lives for all. Alongside our commitment to grow the country’s blossoming insurance sector with our partners, we aim to organize more unique occasions to better connect with the people of Myanmar and achieve a brighter future together filled with even more amazing memorable moments,” said Mr. Nhon Ly (Luc), AIA Myanmar’s CEO.
“We are very pleased to welcome Myanmar into our Asia Pacific-wide network of life insurance operations. Congratulations to our AIA Myanmar team and as our latest country market in the region, it marks a momentous new chapter in our 100-year history serving millions of people and generations of families from diverse cultures and communities. That is a century’s-worth of experience and we remain committed to providing the same top-quality life insurance expertise to meet the needs of policy holders in Myanmar,” enthused Mr. Ng Keng Hooi, AIA Group Chief Executive and President.
AIA Myanmar’s representative office was established back in 2013 and in the past seven years, it actively participated in different activities to enhance knowledge of customers regarding the insurance industry. In November 2019, the company was awarded its life insurance license by the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Ministry of Planning, Finance and Industry to operate in Myanmar through a 100% wholly-owned subsidiary, with its first life policy insurants, signing up soon after.
The company aims to support the country’s communities and this will be reflected in more unique future activities. It has already held community engagements in Myanmar in the past few months. It organized its AIA KICK! Football training activity for children in Yangon together with coaches from English Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur. AIA also celebrated its 100-year anniversary last year, marking this Centennial in Myanmar with the AIA GO! FOR LIGHT charity 5K run in support of providing solar panels to 100 rural homes in 100 households in Bagan.
AIA Myanmar’s ‘UN’ showcase was opened to the public later the same weekend on 19th January, with about 2,000 visitors registering online to participate in this immersive experience and find out more about AIA’s captivating story.
