A lot of us have become familiar with the concept of a ketogenic diet. This diet replaces the calories we get from carbohydrates with calories from proteins and fats.
For those who are looking to lose a lot of weight, Keto diet is claimed to be the most effective within the first 3 to 6 months compared to other diets. This is because it burns more calories to use fat as the source of energy for the body compared to the carbohydrates.
Ketogenic dieting can be expensive. If you feel you’re not losing weight and it’s not as effective as it claimed it would be, you might be doing something wrong
For you to lose weight by this diet, you have to reach the stage of ketosis. Your daily carbohydrates intake should not exceed 5-10% of the total calories you consume per day.
You can incorporate proteins into the low carb diet. One widely accepted misconception is that you don’t have to limit the protein intake on a ketogenic diet. This is very wrong because any excess protein will be broken down into amino acids and consequently into sugar which can throw you off the ketosis cycle.
You are allowed to eat fatty food as your staple diet in this diet but if you over consume the unhealthy fats such as animal fats, butter, cheese, your results can suffer.
If you eat more than you can burn, it will be hard to lose weight. Even if you are in ketosis, you are going to put on weight. The fattier the food, the better chance that it also has some carbohydrates in it. Not only your calorie intake exceeds the daily requirements but also will disrupt your ketosis cycle.
Alcoholic drinks have a high amount of carbohydrates in them, including both wine and beer. Ketogenic diet doesn’t have room for alcohol.
You have to get enough exercise to go with your fatty diet to burn more calories.
If you are stressed, your elevated stress hormones are more likely to make you gain weight.
Some medical problems of the thyroid and depression can affect your weight. If you have some underlying conditions, the ketogenic diet might not work well for you.
High fat intake does not equal to an effective ketogenic diet. A proportionate intake of your macronutrients is key to a successful ketogenic diet. People think keto diet is easy because you can eat fatty food. Ketogenic diet is also a strict diet and you need to consult your nutritionist or a doctor if you’re about to try this diet.
