JOIN THE JOURNEY
For more than a century, AIA has strived to make a significant, positive impact for our customers and communities across Asia. This commitment is reinforced by our Purpose to help people to live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives.
The AIA One Billion initiative is our ambition to engage a billion people to live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives by 2030. We are starting a movement to bring our Purpose to life and translate it into reality, creating a more sustainable future for everyone in society. We are excited to set out on this path. We invite you to come with us and join the journey.
Through partnerships, events, community programs and campaigns, we will educate, inspire, and support our communities across Asia to improve people’s physical, mental, and environmental wellness while championing financial inclusion.
With AIA One Billion, we intend to reach beyond our existing customer base to all people in Asia, driving broad, sweeping, lasting behavioural change to create a healthier Asia.
We will track, measure and report on our progress as part of our Environmental, Social and Governance reporting – the first milestone will be shared in our ESG annual report in March 2023.
We have the ambition to become a global leader in Environmental, Social and Governance and we have a long-term strategy to make a difference to the sustainable development of our communities.
The AIA One Billion initiative will inspire all of us at AIA – agents and employees – we will touch more lives, drive more positive behavioural change, be more inclusive, and deliver real, lasting solutions to improve the quality of life for all people.
In recent years, while populations in Asia have grown in wealth and affluence, lifestyle related diseases have also increased, accounting for more than 70 percent of all deaths(1).. Modifiable factors such as physical inactivity, poor nutrition, smoking, and excessive alcohol consumption have fuelled the rise of non-communicable diseases(2) such as cancer, diabetes, respiratory and heart disease, as well as mental conditions and disorders.
At the same time, the environment is increasingly identified as a significant cause of disease with research linking NCDs with environmental factors. We also know that Asia is particularly affected by climate change. The World Health Organization and the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change have warned that climate change will increase morbidity and mortality especially in this region(3).
Altogether this is a critical situation that threatens to cripple public healthcare and rising rates of morbidity and mortality and represents a serious humanitarian crisis for the entire life insurance industry, for society, and for all people living in the communities in which AIA operates across Asia.
By taking action today to actively engage people across Asia to embrace healthier lifestyles and secure a healthier planet, we are confident that we will leave our business in better shape than we found it. Committed to stewardship and legacy, we are therefore proud to launch AIA One Billion in January 2022 and stay true to our Purpose of helping people across Asia live Healthier, Longer, Better Lives.
