Runners participated to support contribution of 100 solar panels for 100 village homes in conjunction with leading insurance company’s 100-year celebration
[Yangon, Myanmar, 18 November, 2019] – AIA, the leading insurance group by market capitalization, held its 100-year anniversary on 17 November in Bagan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the Mandalay Region of Myanmar, as the latest part of its 2019 centennial calendar across the Asia-Pacific region.

To mark the centennial and in line with its objective to promote Healthier, Longer, Better lives, AIA Myanmar organized its “AIA GO! FOR LIGHT” run which saw 200 enthusiastic participants compete over a scenic 5KM course set amongst the historic pagodas adorning the ancient city’s landscape. The race which commenced and ended near the sacred Htilominlo Temple in Bagan early on Sunday morning, was also in support of the donation of 100 solar panels for 100 households in Tu Ywin Taing, areas which have limited access to electricity in Bagan.
In attendance at the event were the representatives of Tu Ywin Taing Village, Mr. Tan Hak Leh, AIA’s Asia-Pacific Regional CEO, Mr. Nhon Ly (Luc), CEO of AIA Myanmar, and AIA Myanmar representatives and employees. Following the run, the representatives of the village were presented with solar panels, which were later installed at the 100 village households.

AIA Myanmar’s CEO Mr. Nhon Ly (Luc) shared, “The AIA Group is celebrating its centennial around the Asia Pacific region with unique events and in Myanmar, we wanted to do something special and contribute to the community. We organized our first “AIA GO! FOR LIGHT” 5KM charity run and event which culminated in the contribution 100 solar panels in solidarity with the village communities in need. Bagan was selected as the site for the occasion as one of the most cherished places in Myanmar, a historic land close to the hearts of many here.”

Following the run, AIA Myanmar awarded six prizes for the top six runners. Three lucky ambassadors were also selected for the amazing chance to fly up on the hot air balloons in Bagan, as part of the brand’s celebrations in Myanmar, which is the penultimate country on the international centenary calendar ahead of the grand finale in Hong Kong.

AIA Myanmar representative office was established in 2013. In the past six years, it actively participated in different activities to improve the living quality of Myanmar people as well as enhance knowledge of customers regarding the insurance industry. In April 2019, AIA was selected as an applicant to operate in Myanmar through a 100 per cent wholly-owned subsidiary, the company will soon launch insurance products in the country as well as continue its commitment to long-term socioeconomic development to help people in the country lead Healthier, Longer, Better lives. This will be reflected in more unique future engagements as the insurance company expands its presence in the country.
